Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking is best for those who wants to gain some experience of trekking and also for those who have limited time. It is a small trekking circuit in the lower part of Annapurna region. The prime destination of this trail is awesome viewpoint at Poon Hill from where one enjoys fascinating snow-capped peaks. The trekkers will have deep impression of this region as the trail leads to rhododendron forest, streams, heterogeneous landscapes and lush vegetation. Warm welcome of local people equally fascinates the traveller. The location is inhabited by ethnic groups such as Magar and Gurung.

This trek is also known as Annapurna Sunrise Trek. The trek challenges your stamina at Ulleri where there are more than 3000 stone steps, one of world’s largest stone steps. The trek starts from Nayapul which is in driving distance from Pokhara. On the way to Ulleri and Ghorepani you witness serene beauty of Mt. Annapurna (8091 m.) and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m.). The ultimate destination, Poon Hill, gives eternal joy to trekkers as you are in unison with nature. The experience of trekking does not stop here. From Poon Hill we further move to Ghandruk enjoying Gurung Museum in beautiful Gurung village. After walking through rhododendron forest we make way to Nayapul and then drive to Pokhara announcing end of our short trek.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01:Arrival in Nepal at Kathmandu Our airport representative will pick up you and take you to hotel in Kathmandu.
  • Day 02:Preparation for trekking On this day, you will be provided sufficient time for doing preparations for continuing our trek. You will meet trek leaders and other team members of the expedition.
  • Day 03:Drive to Pokhara Stay overnight at Pokhara. Enjoy carefree roaming in lakeside and mountain views.
  • Day 04:Pokhara - Naya Pul (bus) – Tikhedunga Around 4-hour trek to Tikhedunga. The trail winds its way through bamboo forests and passes by a spectacular waterfall.
  • Day 05:Tikhedunga - Ghorepani The Annapurna South (7273m) and the Hiunchuli gradually unfold on this pleasant walk uphill through fields and pastures and later through rhododendrons and oak woods. Ghorepani was originally a horse watering post, which has evolved into an important crossroads for tourists and the numerous mule caravans on the Jomsom-Pokhara trip.
  • Day 06:Ghorepani - Poon Hill - Tadapani We leave early morning for Poon Hill, to catch the early morning sunlight on the panorama of peaks: Dhaulagiri, Annapurna’s, and Machhapuchhre. This is an option but really worth the while. We then retrace our steps to Ghorepani and continue towards Tadapani through rhododendron woods.
  • Day 07:Tadapani - Ghandrunk The trail gently descends through a subtropical forest highlighted by huge bamboo massifs and giant rhododendrons. Ghandruk is the main village of the Gurung tribe, warriors known for their contribution to the famous Gurkha regiments.
  • Day 08:Ghandruk – Nayapul - Pokhara We continue our descent to the Modi Khola river end to nayapul then drive back to Pokhara. Over night in Pokhara.
  • Day 09:Drive to Kathmandu Stay overnight in Kathmandu. And, pack baggage for your destination country
  • Day 10:Back to your country Our trip concludes today as you pack your baggage for your country. A representative of NTA will take you to the airport.

Usefull Info

Size of Trekking Group

For Poon Hill Trek, there will be one leader and Sherpa porter (1 porter for 2 trekkers). This arrangement is done for the smooth running of the campaign. It ensures that the trip will carry on as per plan even if anybody in a group gets sick. NTA can operate this trek for a group of any size. But, a group of 12 are considered as optimum size. However, if you have a group of more than 12, NTA can arrange this too.

Accommodations

While on trek, we will spend four nights at local tea houses. All accommodations for this trek will be on twin sharing basis. However, on request, single rooms can also be made available but it costs additional $ 250 US.

Meals

During our Poon Hill Trek, we will enjoy typical Nepali food, different ethnic cuisines as well as all types of international cuisine like, Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and Indian. You can even enjoy hot chocolates, breads and drinks of different variety and snacks. 
Breakfast of a day will be served at the same tea house or lodge where we spent the night, as per its menu. Lunch will be served on the way to destination and dinner will be served at the tea house where you spend the night. A welcome dinner, a farewell dinner and breakfasts will be served during our stay in Kathmandu.

Getting Visa for Nepal

You will get on arrival visa for Nepal. On arriving Nepal you will get tourist visa for 15 to five months. It depends upon your purpose of visit but regarding tour you will get the visa for 15 to three months. 
For trekking you need to submit photocopy of passport and two pp size photo of yours.
