The introduction of Project Work Area

The “Sankosh” Village development community” is situated at the Dhading district. It is 2 ½ hour drive from Kathmandu and on the way to Pokhara. This village has most local people depending on agriculture and some are depending in government job like- teacher, officer and etc. We can see Brahmin, Newar, Gurung, Damai, kami and sarki people in this village. The high cast people called “Brahmin” are giving good study to their children in good Boarding school in district headquarter and poor people like – Damai, Kami, Sarki and Gurung are studying in the local primary school. Once they finished the primary level they walked 1 hour uphill to the next school for higher education.

Community project work types and its benefit for these people-

  1. Cultural performance ( with different custom of dances)
  2. Cultural Exchange
  3. Educational exchange & Friendship with Nepali students
  4. Social awareness drama
  5. Nepali Agricultural learning
  6. Building water storage Tank
  7. Compounding the school wall
  8. Distributing the water pipeline to the villagers home

This is an opportunity to help in a wide range of practical village-based projects. Community project work are usually decided upon in consultation with local communities, but you can use your initiative to suggest projects of your own.  Projects are usually partly funded by the communities and partly by our partner organization and/or volunteer contributions.  It is essential that you are sensitive to the needs and wishes of the local community. This service project provides the exchange knowledge about each other where also helping the “needs of Nepali communities” by contributing a small amounts of the help where it is needed. In this community the half of the villagers has their challenge which can be directly absolved through this program. The drinking water resources are less and there are no proper collections of water storage tank.

After building the water storage tank the villagers will have an enough drinking water and they can feed their pets animals easily. And in other side the primary school with having small playing group located in the height will get secured, where the numbers student are falling down every years and get injured.  Such program has been found to encourage schools/communities’ to provide security of students life while running unknowingly on the playground. NTA has been conducting similar educational tour programme in different village of this district by organizing the “Heath Camp Project” to the local poor people since last 3 years.

You'll work in a group usually with minimal supervision. Often you'll also work alongside villagers, learning about traditional methods of building and working. Example projects include; different cast & religions cultural performances, school playground compounding and awareness of cleaning the surrounding, toilet, drinking water projects, recycling projects and learning Nepalese style agriculture.

Community Maintenance Program

The Community Maintenance program is an opportunity to help in a range of community-based projects in a practical way. Students will be placed in projects as basic as building the water storage tank, compounding the walls of school and learning the Nepalese agriculture. All projects are undertaken using local, Nepali standard tools and virtually everything is done by hand. This programme involves students undertaking jobs that require no specific skills, and often involves large amounts of humping, dumping and digging!
