It lies 17 km far from Beni, the district capital at an elevation of approximately 2874m (9429ft). The village lies within the Annapurna region. We can move to the maximum height of Poonhill which is 3210m to view the sunrise and sunset. In Ancient traders, this place used to be a rest stop to find water (Pani in Nepali) for their horses thus leading to the nomenclature Ghorepani.

It is a small hiking circuit in the lower part of Annapurna Conservation Area. The trek begins from Nayapul which is within driving distance of Pokhara. We can reach Pokhara in 30 minutes by flight or it will take around 6 hours to drive. Ghorepani poonhill trek starts and ends in Kathmandu going through various highs and lows in the Himalayas by road driving and pure trekking. Here are the places in which you will halt for the night and the time taken to complete the distance.

Kathmandu Pokhara Travel Note: It will take around 5 to 6 hours to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu (and vice versa) if you travel by road. But, if you want to take a flight, it will save time and you will complete the distance in just 25 to 30 minutes approximately. This will be your choice.   • Highest Altitude(1400m)/ (2070m) /(1570m)

Today after breakfast at the hotel, we start the trail of the day. It takes around 1 to 2 hours to reach Nayapul from Pokhara. On the way, you will observe the most amazing view of high mountains, forest, guava farm, and different artistic and natural beauties. On the arrival at Nayapul, you will walk through a small Nayapul settlement for around 15 minutes. Further, we will move via the Modi River trail or river-side track, and through the settlement of Hile. On the way, we will observe, different marking boards for showing the direction, stone-steps, village passage, and terrace fields. It will take around 3 to 4 hours to reach Tikhedhunga from Nayapul. Stay overnight at a local hotel/lodge in Tikhedhunga.

This day starts with an early morning breakfast at the hotel and uphill trail through stone-steps and few forest-ways. It takes around 6 to 7 hours to reach Ghorepani from Tikhedhunga. On the way, we pass through the settlement of Ulleri, Ban Thanti, Nangge Thanti, Deurali, and finally reach to Ghorepani. The troublesome pathway of the day is masked as the uphill vertical stone-step trail of Ulleri (3200 grueling stone steps). Overall, the trail is pleasant to walk alongside pine, bamboo, oak, rhododendron and spruce forest, waterfall and cascades, pony march, watching over the Himalayas of Annapurna South and the Hiunchuli, with the forested and local settlements' track. Ghorepani is named as Upper Ghorepani and Lower Ghorepani. Lower Ghorepani is named to the place where police check post resides and Upper Ghorepani is further 10 minutes uphill from the Lower one. We stay at Upper Ghorepani in order to reduce the next day's early morning trail to Poon Hill. Stay overnight at Ghorepani.

Today, early in the morning, at around 04:00 AM (time depends upon the sunrise time), we wake up and march towards the Poon Hill Viewpoint. It takes around 45 to 60 minutes to reach Poon Hill Viewpoint from the hotel that we will be staying on. From Poon Hill, we have a panoramic view of mountains like Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain), Dhampus Peak, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri and more. After reaching Poon Hill and spending some time with sunrise view and the beautiful Golden Mountains in all directions, we hail down to Ghorepani. At Ghorepani, we will have breakfast and move further towards Tadapani. It takes around 6 to 7 hours to complete the distance, through the uphill, downhill and straight (plain) pathways going towards Tadapani. We will cross the pauses such as Deurali and Banthanti, before reaching Tadapani. We will have lunch either in Deurali or Banthanti. Stay overnight in Tadapani.

The day starts with early breakfast at around 06:00 AM, but you can estimate the time of breakfast, on the previous day, and according to that breakfast remains set. The trail gently descends through a subtropical forest highlighted by huge bamboo massifs and giant rhododendrons and oaks. After the 4 to 5 hours descent, we reach the Gurung village, Ghandruk. The trail is easier than the previous days'. On the way, we will observe the high Annapurna massifs, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre. The Ghandruk village is mainly known for the Gurung Tribe and their way of living, who are the known warriors for contribution to the famous Gurkha Regiments. Stay overnight at Ghandruk.

Today we will walk for 4 to 5 hours from Ghandruk to Nayapul. After that, we take about a 2 hours drive to Pokhara, checking out from the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) check post. After we reach Pokhara, we will check in to the hotel reserved at Pokhara. You can wander around the beautiful lakeside and streets of Pokhara in the evening.
