Sleep Under the Stars at Everest Base Camp—A Memorable Adventure

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Overnight at Base Camp is an experience of a lifetime for trekkers who aspire to sleep under the stars at the base of the world's tallest mountain. One big difference between the traditional EBC Trek and this one is that the classic trek goes back to Gorak Shep after only a few hours at Base Camp.

This route, on the other hand, lets trekkers fully experience the area by sleeping at Everest Base Camp proper. Even if it's only for a short time, this overnight stay is like mountaineering. The Khumbu Glacier and the stunning ice mountains will be all around you, and you'll hear avalanches coming from the adjacent summits.

This 15-day program, which includes the days from when you arrive in Kathmandu to when you leave, is the perfect mix of cultural experiences, high-altitude trekking, and Himalayan adventure. When you get to Nepal's capital, you'll take the famous Kathmandu to Lukla flight and land at the exciting Lukla Airport, where the runway is in full view of the mountains.

The trip took us through Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to unique animals, pine woods, and the famous Sherpa villages of Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Dingboche. You can stay in Namche and Dingboche for days to get used to the higher altitude, and they have several ways to explore nearby ridges and vistas.

The distance of a trek can be anywhere from 8 to 15 kilometers, depending on the weather and the height. Some of the most interesting things to see are the sunrise at Kala Patthar, which is 5,545 meters high and gives you a different view of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse; a visit to the holy Tengboche monastery; and light camping at Everest Base Camp, which is 5,364 meters high. This is a very rare chance to see Everest base operations of wok climbers during the spring walkaways when day trekkers arrive home. It's a very peaceful experience.

From an adrenaline-pumping flight to Lukla to scenic trekking in the Sagarmatha National Park to an unforgettable camping experience at Base Camp, this trek is for the person wishing to go beyond the standard. The best views, cultural encounters, and high-altitude memories can be found on this Everest trek, whether it is a last-minute adventure or a lifelong dream.

Make a firm booking for an overnight trek to Everest Base Camp, and let your journey to the base of the tallest peak become a source of fame and memories. There are limited seats available for departures in the spring and autumn.

Flight Information for Trekking to Mt. Everest with Overnight Camping at Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Overnight Stay includes getting to and from Lukla (2,800m). Knowing your travel alternatives will help you get ready for a smoother trip.

1. Regular flights from Kathmandu to Lukla (off-season)

During the off-season months, which are usually December to February and June to August, you can fly directly from Kathmandu to Lukla. The flight lasts about 25 to 30 minutes and gives you amazing views of the Himalayas. These direct flights are easier because you don't have to drive anywhere else. But the weather and traffic at the airport can cause delays.

2. Ramechhap (Manthali) to Lukla Flight (Peak Season)

During the busiest trekking times (spring: March–May, autumn: September–November), flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are rerouted to Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) because there is too much air traffic at Kathmandu Airport.

  • You have to drive around 132 kilometers (about 4–5 hours) from Kathmandu to Manthali. Most of the time, you leave around 2:00 AM to catch early morning flights.
  • It takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes to fly from Manthali to Lukla.

This does mean more time on the road, but it makes it more likely that your flight will be on time because Manthali has fewer flight delays than Kathmandu.

3. Helicopter rides to Lukla or back

Helicopter rides are a faster and more scenic way to get between Kathmandu and Lukla, or even back to Kathmandu from base camp/Lobuche. If you're short on time, don't want to take the bus, or want to miss the long descents following the trek, helicopter rides are the best option.

  • You can choose whether to share them or keep them to yourself, based on your budget and preferences.
  • Heli flights cost extra, but they give you sights and convenience that no other type of flying can equal, especially if your flight is canceled or you have an emergency.

Important Notes

  • All flights depend on the weather, and delays or cancellations are common because Lukla is in the mountains.
  • It is highly recommended that you leave 1–2 extra days in your schedule following the journey before you leave the country.
  • Your trekking company will take care of all your flight plans and let you know if the schedule changes or the weather affects your trip.

Your amazing trip to Everest Base Camp starts today when you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital city.

When you get there, go to the immigration section. If you haven't already gotten your Visa on Arrival, you can do it there. Just fill out the form, send in a passport-sized photo, and pay the visa fee (USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, or USD 125 for 90 days). That's all there is to it. You can also apply ahead of time online to save time at the airport.

After you pick up your bags and leave the terminal, a member of our staff will be there to greet you with a warm welcome. Find a sign with your name or the emblem of the company. After that, you'll be taken to your hotel in Kathmandu, where you can unwind after your flight.

Later in the day or early evening, you will go to a meeting before the journey. At this meeting, your trekking guide will:

    • Give you a short overview of the route and trail conditions
    • Check your gear and let me know if you need anything else.
    • Review safety rules and being aware of your altitude
    • Answer any queries you might have

You might also meet other trekkers and get excited about the trip ahead.

You can visit Thamel, the tourist center of Kathmandu, after the conference. There are comfortable cafes, shops selling trekking gear, and busy streets full of people. Get some sleep tonight since tomorrow is when the real fun starts!

      • Flight Distance: Kathmandu to Lukla—138km (approx. 35 minutes)
      • Trek Distance: Lukla to Phakding—6.2km
      • Trek Duration: 3–4 hours
      • Highest Altitude: Lukla (2,800m)
      • Overnight Stay: Teahouse in Phakding
      • Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Today is the official start of your journey to Everest Base Camp! Getting to Lukla, the entrance to the Khumbu region, is the first adventure.

During the most active trekking months—March, April, May, September, October, and November—you'll probably have to travel to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap early in the morning, between 1:00 and 3:00 AM, because flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are being redirected because there is too much air traffic at the Kathmandu airport. It takes about 5 to 6 hours to go to Manthali in a shared tourist vehicle. You will take a short flight to Lukla after the drive.

You may fly a direct flight from Kathmandu to Lukla in the off-peak months of January, February, June, July, August, and December. This is more convenient and saves time.

If you want a simpler and speedier way, especially during peak times, you can take a helicopter flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. It costs about $550 per person if five people share the ride. This choice lets you skip the long drive in the morning and instead take a gorgeous and comfortable 35-minute journey straight to the mountains.

When you get to Lukla (2,800m), you'll take a short stop to meet your porters, organize your backpack, and have a quick tea or lunch. This is where your first day of hiking to Phakding (2,610m) will start.

The route is fairly simple and follows the Dudh Koshi River. It goes through little towns, prayer wheels, mani stones, and prayer flags that flap in the wind. You'll cross your first few suspension bridges, which are entertaining and a touch scary for people who have never done it before.

You will get to Phakding, a quiet village by the river, after hiking for around 3 to 4 hours through pine trees and fields. You can check in at a local teahouse, where you can relax, have a warm meal, and take up the mountain atmosphere. The meal is filling and healthy. Most of the time, you can choose from dal bhat, noodles, or fried rice.

Your body will slowly get used to the higher altitude after today's trek. It's a great way to warm up before the harder hikes. Have fun on your first night in the mountains!

        • Distance: Approx. 10–12 km
        • Duration: 6 to 7 hours
        • Highest Altitude: 3,440 meters
        • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
        • Accommodation: Local teahouse in Namche Bazaar

The day starts with a warm breakfast and the sound of the Dudh Koshi River flowing nearby after a quiet night in Phakding. As you go to Namche Bazaar, the famed Sherpa settlement and the gateway to Everest, today's trek will be one of the most exciting and beautiful sections of the trip.

The walk goes through magnificent pine trees and over suspension bridges with colorful prayer flags on them. You'll ride through lovely settlements like Monjo and Jorsalle, where you'll stop at the Sagarmatha National Park checkpoint to check in. Before you officially enter the Everest region, this is where your permits are checked.

The route gets steeper and harder as you go, especially in the last two hours before Namche. This part of the trail that goes up is challenging, but it's worth it. If the weather is nice, you might see Mount Everest for the first time peeking out from between the Lhotse and Nuptse ranges. This is a moment that many trekkers will never forget.

When you go to Namche Bazaar (3,440m), you'll sense the vivid spirit of the mountains right away. There are mountains all around the town, and it is constructed in a natural amphitheater. There are nice teahouses, cafes, shops, and bakeries there. You can relax, drink hot tea, or take a brief walk about town once you check into your teahouse to help your body get used to the higher altitude.

          • Distance Walked: 3–4 km (optional hike)
          • Duration: 3–4 hours (for acclimatization hike)
          • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
          • Overnight Stay: Teahouse in Namche Bazaar
          • Highest Altitude Reached: ~3,880m (Everest View Hotel)

Namche Bazaar is a picturesque Sherpa village on a high slope with great views of the Himalayas. Today is a day to rest and get used to the area. Even though it's known as a "rest" day, you won't be doing nothing. The goal today is to make your body get acclimated to the higher altitude, which will help you avoid becoming sick from it.

After a big breakfast at the teahouse, you'll go on a hike to get used to the new place. The short ascent to Everest View Hotel (3,880m), which is one of the highest hotels in the world, is the most popular short hike. On a clear day, you'll be able to see Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other tall peaks for the first time from here.

You might want to stop at the Sherpa Culture Museum or the Syangboche airport, which are both fantastic places to take pictures. The walk goes up a hill, but it's not too hard, and your guide will keep the pace gradual and steady.

When you get back to Namche by early afternoon, you'll have some free time to rest, have a shower, or go about the town. Namche has a surprisingly lively vibe, with bakeries, coffee shops, gear stores, and even Wi-Fi in many teahouses. It's also an excellent time to get any last-minute things you need before going up.

You will sleep in Namche again tonight. Your body needs time to adjust, so staying at the same altitude for another night will make the rest of the trek safer and more fun.

            • Distance: ~10 km (6.2 miles)
            • Duration: 5 to 6 hours
            • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
            • Accommodation: Local teahouse in Tengboche
            • Highest Altitude: 3,810 meters (Tengboche)

Today is one of the most beautiful days of the trip. You leave the lively town of Namche Bazaar and go for Tengboche, a quiet village acknowledged for its monastery.

After a big breakfast, the trail begins with a pleasant and straightforward stroll up the ridge. You'll see pine forests, mani stones, and chortens along the way, and you'll get amazing views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam poking out from behind the peaks. Don't forget to pause and take it all in; this part of the route really does feel wonderful.

You will get to Phunki Thanga, a settlement by the river where most trekkers stop for lunch, after a few hours. The terrain gets harder from here as you start a long, steady climb through thick rhododendron and pine trees. This part can be challenging, so it's fine to take your time, stop often, and drink plenty of water.

Eventually, you'll get to Tengboche, a charming village in the highlands. The Tengboche Monastery, which is the biggest and most important in the Khumbu region, is the best thing to see here. You can tour the monastery, see the evening prayers (if you get there in time), and enjoy the calm environment. The view of Ama Dablam behind the monastery is just stunning.

After a delicious dinner at the teahouse, you'll go to bed and get ready for the next part of your trip. Tengboche can get chilly at night, so dress warmly and enjoy the peace of the mountains.

              • Distance: Approx. 10–11 km
              • Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
              • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
              • Accommodation: Teahouse in Dingboche
              • Highest Altitude: 4,410 meters (Dingboche)

After a quiet morning at Tengboche, where you can see the famous monastery and magnificent trees, you'll start your hike to Dingboche, a popular acclimatization settlement in the Khumbu region.

The day starts with a slow walk down through pine and rhododendron trees. You will cross a suspension bridge over the Imja Khola (river) and go through Debuche, a little settlement right below Tengboche. The views along the way are amazing. As you trek, you'll see Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and other snowy peaks behind you.

After you cross the river, you'll start a steady climb up to Pangboche, one of the oldest Sherpa villages in the area. It's a good area to take a little break or have tea. The terrain starts to shift from here: there are fewer trees, more open fields, and the Himalayas feel stronger.

As you go through the little towns of Somare and Orsho, you will slowly gain altitude. There are largely open fields with stone walls along the trail. After a few more hours of walking, you'll finally get to Dingboche, a large, lovely valley flanked by tall mountains and fields of barley and potatoes.

When you get there, you'll check into a teahouse, get settled in your room, and eat a warm lunch. The air will feel thinner, but the beautiful scenery makes every step worth it. Dingboche is a great site to get used to the altitude before going higher; therefore, the next day will be a rest day to get used to it.

Have a peaceful evening with a cup of tea, talking to fellow trekkers, or just taking in the views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, and Lhotse from this lovely highland settlement.

                • Distance: 2–4 km (optional hike)
                • Duration: 3–4 hours (side hike)
                • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included
                • Accommodation: Local teahouse in Dingboche
                • Highest Altitude: ~5,100m (if hiking to Nangkartshang Peak)

Dingboche is a rest and acclimatization day, which means you'll stay here for the night but go on a little hike during the day to help your body get used to the higher altitude.

After breakfast, you can go on an optional acclimatization trip. Most trekkers choose to climb Nangkartshang Peak, which is about 5,100 meters high. The hike is tough but worth it. It takes 3 to 4 hours and has amazing views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu, and the Imja Valley. A less strenuous walk to Chhukung village is also a nice choice if you're not up for the top.

The most important thing to remember when walking at high altitudes is to "climb high, sleep low." You can minimize your risk of altitude sickness by going up to a higher altitude during the day and then back down to a lower one to sleep.

In the afternoon, you'll go back to Dingboche, where you can relax, have lunch, and look about the village. Dingboche is bigger and more open than a lot of other mountain communities. The fields are lined with stones, and you can see snow-capped peaks all around. You can relax at the teahouse, read a book, talk to other trekkers, or just enjoy the view while sipping hot tea.

This day is really crucial for getting your body ready for the higher climbs that are coming up, especially as you get closer to Lobuche and Everest Base Camp. So, even though it's officially a "rest day," it's still an important component of your adventure!

                  • Distance: around 7 km
                  • Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours
                  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included
                  • Accommodation: Local teahouse in Lobuche
                  • Highest Altitude: 4,910 meters (Lobuche)

The path from Dingboche to Lobuche is one of the most dramatic and emotional parts of the walk, both because of the scenery and the high altitude.

The journey begins with an easy hike through open alpine scenery after an early breakfast at your Dingboche teahouse. As you go up, the area around you gets more barren and rocky. On your left, the majestic peaks of Taboche, Cholatse, and Lobuche rise. The scenery will get rougher and more desolate as you go, with fewer traces of plants.

The path slowly rises to Dughla (Thukla), a little village where you can take a short break and maybe have a cup of tea. From here, the climb to the Thukla Pass is very steep and moving. There is a memorial place at the summit of the ridge for the climbers and Sherpas who died on Everest. It makes you feel little and strong at the same time, and it reminds you how precious these mountains are.

After a moment of thought, you'll keep going down the Khumbu Glacier's glacier moraine. As you approach closer to Lobuche, a small group of teahouses hidden beneath huge peaks, the trail levels off a bit.

You will surely feel the altitude when you get to your teahouse in Lobuche. Every step will be slower and your body will have to work harder. Take the night off to relax, drink a lot of water, and have a hot meal while surrounded by big snow-covered mountains.

Tomorrow, you'll go even closer to your objective of reaching Everest Base Camp!

                    • Distance: 2–4 km (optional hike)
                    • Duration: 3–4 hours (side hike)
                    • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included
                    • Accommodation: Local teahouse in Dingboche
                    • Highest Altitude: ~5,100m (if hiking to Nangkartshang Peak)

Today, you will rest and adjust to the higher altitude in Dingboche. You will stay here overnight, but you will hike during the day to acclimate to the higher altitude.

After breakfast, you can embark on an optional acclimatization hike. Most people choose to climb Nangkartshang Peak, which is about 5,100 meters high. The hike is tough but worth it; it takes 3–4 hours and has amazing views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu, and the Imja Valley. If you don't want to climb to the top, a less strenuous trip to Chhukung village is also a wonderful choice.

The most important thing to do today is to follow the "climb high, sleep low" rule for high-altitude trekking. Your body gets used to the higher elevation better when you go up during the day and back down at night, which minimizes your risk of getting altitude sickness.

You'll go back to Dingboche in the afternoon, where you can relax, have lunch, and look about the village. Dingboche is more open and wider than a lot of other mountain settlements. It has stone-walled farms and magnificent vistas of snow-capped peaks all around. You can relax at the teahouse, read a book, talk to other trekkers, or just drink steaming tea and look at the view.

This day is really crucial for getting your body ready for the higher climbs that are coming up, especially as you get closer to Lobuche and Everest Base Camp. It's a "rest day," but it's still an important component of your adventure!

                      • Distance: 10–12 km total
                      • Duration: 7–9 hours (including both hikes)
                      • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included
                      • Accommodation: Tent at Everest Base Camp
                      • Highest Altitude: 5,545m (Kala Patthar)

This is one of the most exciting and satisfying days of your whole trip!

To start your climb up to Kala Patthar (5,545m), the highest point of your trip, you'll get up quite early in the morning, usually around 4:30 AM. The climb is hard and steep, especially when it's chilly, but it's totally worth it. When the sun's golden rays start to light up the sky, you'll see the most beautiful panoramic views of the Himalayan giants, such as Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, and more. You will never forget this "once-in-a-lifetime" moment.

After taking in the views and snapping a lot of pictures, you'll go back down to Gorak Shep for a warm breakfast and a little break.

Later in the day, you'll get ready and set out on the last stage of your journey: the trek to the famous Everest Base Camp (5,340m). The path goes along the edge of the Khumbu Glacier, which is encircled by tall ice formations and colorful prayer flags. When you get to base camp, you'll feel proud and emotional because you've made it to the base of the world's biggest mountain!

What else makes this day so special? You will really sleep in Everest Base Camp tonight!

This once-in-a-lifetime adventure is planned with the greatest care:

                      • Setting up tents correctly on a flat, safe surface
                      • Warm sleeping bags that are good for high altitudes
                      • Extra oxygen is supplied for your safety and comfort.
                      • Hygienic food made by our staff
                      • Constant tracking of health by staff with lots of experience

You can take a short walk closer to the Khumbu Icefall after dinner if you feel relaxed and energized. This is one of the most risky and dramatic parts of the climb that climbers have to deal with. Even after a long day, the desire to see more of this unique landscape might give you a second wind.

Sunset from Everest Base Camp is beautiful. As the sun goes down, the peaks turn a soft golden color. As always, don't forget to get up early tomorrow to see the sunrise over the Himalayas. It will leave you speechless.

Sleeping at Everest Base Camp isn't just a way to show off—it's a way to feel the mountains in a way that not many people can.

                        • Accommodation: Teahouse in Pheriche
                        • Highest Altitude: Everest Base Camp (5,364m)

You will wake up to the crisp, chilly air and the sound of glaciers and mountains after an incredible night at Everest Base Camp. It really is a unique feeling to have spent the night where the Everest expeditions start.

After breakfast, you'll begin your journey back down the valley. The first part of the trek takes you back to Gorak Shep, following the same rough road over the glacier and rocky ground. As you go down in height, the walk gets a little easier from here.

You will pass Lobuche again and then continue down the route to Dughla, where you can take a short break. The descent offers a refreshing shift in pace, with the air becoming increasingly oxygen-rich as you descend.

By the afternoon, you'll be in the picturesque village of Pheriche, which is next to a broad riverbed and surrounded by rolling hills. This settlement is a popular place for hikers and climbers to stop. There are a few cozy teahouses with warm dining rooms and tasty meals.

You will have time to relax, get some sleep, and have a cooked supper at night. It's a downhill day, but the distance is considerable, so your legs might hurt. But your lungs will be pleased with the denser air!

It's also a nice time to think about how great it was to get to base camp and enjoy the trip back through the Himalayas.

                          • Distance: around 14 km
                          • Duration: 6–7 hours
                          • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
                          • Accommodation: Teahouse in Namche Bazaar
                          • Highest Altitude: 3,930 meters (Pheriche)

The trail simply goes down through mountain meadows and little towns as you leave Pheriche behind. You'll go back the way you came, through Pangboche, which is one of the oldest Sherpa communities in the Khumbu region. You could stop here for a short cup of tea or to look at the old monastery that is said to have a yeti scalp within.

The trail goes down to Debuche from there, and then a short climb leads to Tengboche, where the famed Tengboche Monastery is. If you have time, you can look around again or just enjoy the vista of Ama Dablam rising tall behind the monastery.

After lunch at one of the lodges along the way, you'll go down steep pathways into the woods. The last part can be tiring because you have to cross suspension bridges and wound through pine trees, but the anticipation of getting to Namche keeps you going.

By late afternoon, you'll be in Namche Bazaar, the busy Sherpa town you went to earlier in the walk. It seems good and familiar, like coming back home after a trip. You can take a hot shower, have a warm supper, and maybe even celebrate your return with a slice of apple pie from one of the local bakeries once you check in at your teahouse.

You will continue your descent to Lukla tomorrow, but for now, enjoy a good night's sleep in Namche.

                            • Distance: Approx. 18 km
                            • Duration: 6 to 7 hours
                            • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
                            • Accommodation: Teahouse in Lukla
                            • Highest Altitude: 3,440m (Namche Bazaar)

You will start your last day of hiking in the Khumbu region after breakfast in Namche Bazaar. The trail goes down steeply at first, so be careful and take your time, especially on the rough parts. You'll go back the way you came, over suspension bridges, going through pine and rhododendron forests, and passing Sherpa communities you know, including Monjo and Phakding.

The hike is primarily downhill, but it's still long and hard on the knees, so trekking poles are quite helpful today. The air will get warmer and heavier as you go down, which is a nice change after spending days at a high altitude.

You will get to Lukla, the small alpine village where the climb started, by the afternoon. There is frequently a bittersweet sense here. You are happy that the hard part is finished, but you are also sad that the adventure is coming to an end.

You will stay at a local teahouse in Lukla tonight, where you can have your last dinner with the trekking team. A lot of trekkers use this time to rejoice with their guides and porters, tell stories, and maybe even dance to Nepali music if it's playing at the lodge.

Think about the amazing things you've just done: you've walked in the footsteps of legends, seen the majestic Everest up close, and pushed yourself to your limits. You will fly back to Kathmandu tomorrow.

                              • Distance: Approx. 138 km flight distance (Lukla to Kathmandu)
                              • Flight Duration: 25–30 minutes (Lukla to Kathmandu) / 15 minutes (Lukla to Manthali)
                              • Drive Duration: 4–5 hours (Manthali to Kathmandu, if applicable)
                              • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
                              • Accommodation: 3-star hotel in Kathmandu
                              • Highest Altitude: 2,860m (Lukla)

Today is the first day of your journey back to city life after days of hiking through the beautiful Himalayas. You'll have an early breakfast at your teahouse in Lukla (2,800m) to start your day. This will be your last chance to see the mountains that have been your home for the past two weeks.

Your travel information may change depending on the time of year.

                              • During the busiest trekking times (March to May and September to November), flights from Lukla normally go to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. You will take a short flight to Manthali, which takes around 20 minutes, and then drive back to Kathmandu for 4 to 5 hours. The road trip is beautiful, going through small villages and lovely landscapes.
                              • During the off-season (December to February and June to August), planes usually go straight to Kathmandu and take about 25 to 30 minutes. Before you land in the busy metropolis, you'll get one more look at the Himalayas from the air.
                              • Optional: Helicopter Flight - If you want to get back faster and more comfortably, you can alternatively take a helicopter directly from Lukla to Kathmandu (if the weather is good). This is great for people who don't want to wait a long time or deal with flight itineraries that aren't clear at busy seasons.

When you get back to Kathmandu (1,400m), you'll be taken to your hotel, where you may relax, have a nice shower, and maybe get a good lunch or coffee. You have the rest of the day off. You can go around Thamel, shop for souvenirs, or just relax after finishing one of the most famous treks in the world.

You leave tomorrow, so make the most of your last night in Nepal!

                                • Altitude: 1,400m (Kathmandu)
                                • Activity: Departure transfer to the airport
                                • Meal: Breakfast (depending on flight time)

Today is the last day of your trip to Everest Base Camp. It's time to say farewell to Nepal after an amazing trip across the Himalayas and a warm welcome back to the city.

If your flight leaves in the morning, you might have some spare time to eat breakfast, do some last-minute shopping in Thamel, or just rest at your hotel. Check that everything is in order and that your luggage are packed.

Our representative will pick you up from the hotel and take you to Tribhuvan overseas Airport, where you will leave for your overseas flight. We suggest getting to the airport at least three hours before your trip.

As you get aboard the plane, look out the window one final time at the faraway Himalayan peaks. Not only do you have pictures and souvenirs, but you also have a heart full of memories, new friends, and the deep satisfaction of finishing one of the most satisfying journeys in the world.

We hope to see you in Nepal again sometime. Have a safe trip!

Our team guides, porters and accompanying staff are locals with a broad knowledge about each and every location that we travel through.

What a Typical Day Looks Like on the Everest Trek with Overnight Stay?

An average day on the Everest Base Camp Trek with an overnight stay follows a simple but well-organized schedule that includes hiking, getting used to the altitude, and rest. The day's schedule is meant to help your body get used to the higher elevation while you steadily make your way to Base Camp.

Around 6:00 AM, you generally get a wake-up call and a warm cup of tea or coffee to start your day. Your first stop will be the teahouse dining room for breakfast, which usually includes cereal, toast, eggs, pancakes, or local dal bhat to give you energy for the day. Starting around 7:30 to 8:00 AM, you'll start hiking. Take your time and enjoy the views as you get used to the higher elevation.

Walking in the morning takes three to four hours, with short breaks to drink water, rest, or take pictures. Midday, you'll have lunch at a teahouse on the walk. Freshly made meals generally include soups, noodles, rice, or momos (Nepali dumplings). It takes another two to three hours of hiking after lunch, based on where the hikers are going that day. As you walk, you'll see forests, suspension bridges, small Sherpa towns, and beautiful mountain views.

The next place you'll stay the night will be reached between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. You can rest, read, or look around the town after booking your room. Every night at 6:30 PM, everyone meets in the teahouse eating hall, which is usually the warmest place. Thick meals are common, and people like to warm up with hot drinks like hot chocolate or ginger tea.

You will get an update from your guide on the next day's plans after dinner. By 8 or 9 PM, most hikers are in bed, resting and getting ready for the next day's walk. It's peaceful and quiet at night in the mountains, so you can get a good night's sleep before another day of hiking.

Best Season to Do the Everest Base Camp Trek with Overnight Stay

Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November) are the best times to do the Everest Base Camp Trek with an overnight stay. The weather is most stable during these times, and you can see Mount Everest and the other hills in the area clearly. In the spring, rhododendron woods are in full bloom, and the weather is mild, which makes hiking and overnight stays more pleasant. The best time to visit Nepal is in the fall, when the air is cool and clear, and there are lots of fun cultural events going on.

At Kala Patthar or Base Camp, the clear skies after the monsoon make for stunning mountain views that are great for photos and watching the sunrise or sunset. Winter has fewer people on the trails, but it can get very cold and snowy, which can make hiking harder. Due to heavy rain, slippery paths, and poor vision, the monsoon season is usually not a good time to go. Overall, the safest, most fun, and most memorable times to trek to Everest Base Camp and spend the night there are autumn and spring.

Accommodation and Meals Everest Trek with Camping at Base Camp

Along the trek, most of the places to stay on the Everest Base Camp Trek are teahouses and lodges. These guesthouses are owned by families and have simple but comfortable rooms. Many of them have common bathrooms and heating in the winter. Facilities are usually a little better in bigger communities like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, where trekkers can eat in comfortable dining rooms. A lot of trekkers choose to camp when they get to Everest Base Camp. They sleep in tents set up by the trekking personnel. This camping night in Base Camp is one of a kind. You'll never forget the chance to stay right at the foot of the world's tallest peak.

During the trip, you'll eat a variety of traditional Nepali foods like dal bhat (lentils with rice), momos (dumplings), soups, noodles, and pasta, as well as western foods like pancakes and sandwiches. At Base Camp, the support team makes meals for you during the day, making sure you have fresh, warm, and healthy food even though you're in a remote area. You may also get hot drinks like tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, which are great for warming up after a long day of hiking.

The food and lodging are basic compared to the city, but they are warm and welcoming, thanks to the Sherpas' hospitality. Staying at teahouses and camping at Everest Base Camp, along with healthy meals, make for a real and unforgettable trekking experience in the Himalayas.

Difficulty Level of the Everest Base Camp Trek with Overnight Stay

The Everest Base Camp journey, which includes an overnight stay at Base Camp, is a somewhat challenging journey that needs a reasonable amount of physical fitness, endurance, and mental preparedness. The journey requires trekking for 5 to 7 hours a day over trails that are occasionally steep and rocky and not always level. The trails are often at high altitudes, ranging from 2,800 meters in Lukla to nearly 5,500 meters at Kala Patthar. The altitude is the hardest part.

As you go up, the air gets thinner and the amount of oxygen drops, which makes you more likely to get altitude sickness. That's why the schedule has acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to assist your body in getting used to the new environment slowly. The hike doesn't involve any technical climbing skills, but trekkers should be ready for long days of walking, unpredictable weather, and modest living circumstances. Doing aerobic and endurance activities before your trip can make it a lot better. Most healthy people can finish this famous journey and enjoy its stunning views if they take their time, stay cheerful, and follow the advice of expert local guides.

Trekking Permits Required for the EBC Trek with Overnight at Campsite

If you want to perform the Everest Base Camp Trek and stay overnight, you need these three permits:

                                • Sagarmatha National Park Permit: With this permission, you can go to Sagarmatha National Park, which is a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magnificent location is being protected, and you can see it.
                                • People who live in Tibet's Khumbu region can use the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit. Getting it will directly help the place grow in the long run.
                                • Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card: The Nepal Tourism Board gives out these cards. This helps them keep track of information regarding trekkers and hikers. It is highly crucial for your safety because it makes it easy for people to help you in an emergency.

Your trekking organization normally takes care of getting these permits for you. You must keep these with you at all times for safety and to check in at checkpoints.

Travel Insurance Requirement for Everest Trek with Overnight at Base Campsite

Anyone who is going on the Everest Base Camp Trek and staying overnight at Base Camp must have travel insurance. Because the trail is at a high altitude and in a remote area, there is always a chance of altitude sickness, injuries, or abrupt changes in the weather that could require a helicopter to get you out of there. Your insurance needs to cover medical costs, high-altitude trekking up to at least 5,500 meters, and helicopter evacuation in case of an emergency. It's also a good idea to make sure your policy covers travel cancellations, lost luggage, and delays due to weather, which happen a lot in the Everest area. Before you start your trek, most trekking companies will ask to see a copy of your insurance. It's best to get your coverage from a reputable international source before you get to Nepal. Having the right insurance not only gives you peace of mind, but it also makes sure you get help quickly in case of an emergency.

Altitude Sickness and How to Prevent It During the Overnight Base Camp Trek

During the Overnight Everest Trek, people often get altitude sickness, especially as they climb above 3,000 meters, where air levels drop sharply. Headaches, feeling sick, being dizzy, and having trouble breathing are all symptoms that can happen to anyone, no matter what age or fitness level they are. To avoid getting altitude sickness, you should go up slowly, drink plenty of water, take acclimatization days seriously, and avoid drinking and too much physical activity. Eating well and getting enough sleep can also help your body get used to living at a higher level. After talking to a doctor, some hikers take medicine like Diamox to help keep their symptoms from happening. In our plan, there are days when you will rest so that your body can safely get used to the higher elevation. • Eat well to maintain energy, even if you lose appetite at altitude.
                                • Take acclimatization days seriously—rest and do short hikes.

Spending a night at Everest Base Camp

Spending a night at Everest Base Camp was the most surreal and emotional experience of my life. I still can’t believe I did it! The trek itself was breathtaking—literally and figuratively. From the very first day, the landscapes kept changing: green pine forests, swinging suspension bridges, icy rivers, and finally the stark beauty of the high Himalayas. The real magic, however, was waking up at Base Camp with the golden sun rising over the mighty Khumbu Icefall. It was so peaceful, so silent, except for the wind. Our guide Shiva from Nepal Trek Adventure took such good care of us, making sure we were acclimatizing properly and staying motivated every step. The tents at base camp were warm and surprisingly comfortable despite the freezing temperatures. I am forever grateful to NTA for making this possible and for turning a dream into a safe and unforgettable journey. I highly recommend them to anyone thinking of doing the Everest trek!

A Night in Everest Base Camp

This trek was more than just a trip—it was a spiritual adventure. Hiking all the way to Everest Base Camp and spending the night there gave me a whole new respect for mountaineers. The night under a million stars with Everest standing tall nearby—it felt like being on a different planet. The team from Nepal Trek Adventure was incredibly professional. Binod, the manager, stayed in touch from the day I booked. Our guide Tribhuvan knew everything—from local culture to mountain safety—and made the trek feel less exhausting with his encouragement. NTA also arranged for the sleeping bags and warm jackets we needed for the overnight stay. Thank you, NTA, for creating this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another trek with them.
