Fishtail Sunrise

This is a wonderful trek from the foothills of the Annapurna South region up to the base camp of Annapurna South Itself, known as ABC.

It is particularly suited for those who love to enjoy the flora and fauna, with several panoramic views of the Himalaya including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, as well as taking in the view from Poon Hill along the way - a real "not-to-be-missed" experience.

The trek is known as a classic walk through the Annapurna Conservation Area - right into the heart of the mountains, and ends at a point where you are literally surrounded by soaring Himalayan peaks, with time to see both sunrise, and sunset from the Annapurna Base Camp. The trek involves several ascents and descents, but can be varied to suit ability as there are several alternative routes to the sanctuary, all meeting at Chomrong.

This trek provides an excellent opportunity to experience the fascinating glimpse of rich culture, typical Nepalese lifestyle and ultimate thrill of trekking in the Himalayas at the high elevation.

Itinerary:

Day 01

Kathmandu to Pokhara - 4-5 hours drive by car / van / bus - your choice!

Day 02

1 hour drive to Nayapul by private Car / Van, we then begin trek to Tikedhunga.

We begin our trek at Nayapul, driving to the end of the road. A 15 minute walk along the bank of the Modi Khola River brings us to Birethanti (1,065m), a large village with many shops & teahouses. From there, the trail continues through the village, and follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. From there the trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille at 1,495m, and further short climb to Tikedhunga at 1,525m. This is a short and relatively easy day, allowing us to become used to the experience of trekking in Nepal.

Day 03

Trek from Tikedhunga to Ghorepani

After a hearty breakfast we leave Tikedunga, we begin with a steep climb to Ulleri. Ulleri is a large Magar village at 2,070m. Then the trail continues to climb more gently through fine forests of oak & rhododendron towards Banthanti at 2,250m. From there we trek towards Nangethanti at 2,460m. An hours further walk brings us to Ghorepani at 2,775m.

Day 04

Ghorepani - Poon Hill - Tadapani

Today, very early in the morning, we rise to hike the 1 hour climb to Poon Hill (3,195m). A brilliant spectacle, this vantage point provides an unobstructed view of sunrise over the high Himalayas. We spend around 40 minutes taking in the wonderful spectacle, before returning to Ghorepani for a well deserved breakfast. From Ghorepani, we ascend along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2,960m), before descending to Banthanti. From here we take the turn off to Tadapani (2,540m).

Day 05

Tadapani to Chomorung

The day starts with steep down hill. Leaving Tadapani, we descend steeply through forests and then the trail eases as we reach village of Gurjung -home to the Gurung people. From here it is a relatively easy walk to Chomorung (2,020m), and the start of the Sanctuary valley
