Pashupatinath Temple is a biggest Hindu shrine in the world. Any Hindu from any part of the world has the desire to visit Pashupatinath Temple and worship Lord Shiva once in the lifetime. In other words, it is a Vatican of Hindu. The word Pashupatinath means ‘Lord of Animal’. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of ‘Shiva Linga’ here. This stone carved ‘Linga’ has four faces in each direction east, west, north and south. There is all total of 12 Jyotirlinga in India and the Jyotirlinga of Kathmandu (Pashupatinath) is considered as the head of the body. All 12 Jyotirlingas of India form a body of Lord Shiva. The temple is listed in the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. It is located on the bank of Holy River called Bagmati. The temple is built in Pagoda style with bronze roof and silver doors. There are several other temples in Pashupatinath premises. To the south of the temple is ‘Aryaghat’. It is a place where Hindus are cremated after death. At the time of ‘Shivaratri’ (Lord Shiva’s birthday), most of the people visit this site. It is reported that last year (2014) around a million Hindus visited Pashupatinath.
Bouddhanath Stupa is the largest stupa of South Asia. It is built in Mandela shape. Buddhist scriptures dictate that Bouddhanath was built in the 5th century. It has the height of 130 feet and circumference of 1600 square feet. The praying wheels and Mani walls in Bouddhanath make the area spiritual. People walk around and round of Bouddhanath. It is one of the methods of Buddhist meditation. Many monasteries are distinct here. All the monasteries are dedicated to Lord Buddha—The messenger of LOVE, PEACE, and COMPASSION. Bouddhanath is also listed in World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.
Surrounded by small forest, Swoyambhunath is located in a cliff. It is one of the beautiful Buddhist stupas also known as ‘Monkey Temple’ because there are large numbers of monkeys here. It is said that this stupa used to guard the entire Kathmandu Valley when the valley was not settled. At that time the valley was completely covered by water forming a lake. It is the most sacred religious site for Buddhist pilgrimage and for Tibetans, it comes in the second position only after Bouddhanath stupa.
It is located in the heart of Kathmandu. Among other tourist destinations, Kathmandu Durbar Square is the most visited site. Visiting this site takes you at least five hundred years back. The site resembles ancient art, culture, tradition and social system of Kathmandu. Most of the temples and palaces built here were constructed by Malla Kings of Nepal around 500 years back. The site is listed in World Heritage Site by UNESCO in late 70’s. It is also known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, which name was procured from a statue of Hanuman at the entrance of the square. Hanuman is a wholehearted devotee of Lord Ram who spent his life in devotion to Lord Ram.

Some more places to visit in Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu city tour was one of the amazing tours I ever had. Nepal Trek Adventure and Expedition provides the best service. They treated us so well. Guide provided to us was good in English so we don’t get a communication problem. My friend and I had a great time in Kathmandu. He had good knowledge of the places we visited. We spent 5 days there. We visited famous places of the city. Every place we visited were beautiful with their own value. My favorite part of our excursion was Sunrise and Sunset View in Nagarkot. View of the different mountain! Wow truly amazing. I still got goose-bumps when I recollect that tremendous view. Tons of thanks Nepal Trek Adventure for arranging amazing Kathmandu City Tour and professional guide.
Spending some quality time in Kathmandu was like a dream came true for me. I was born in Nepal but I have never been there before. My parents were from Nepal but they are no more Nepalese citizen. I always wanted to visit my birthplace but never got an opportunity. A few months ago when I got my semester break I visited Kathmandu-the capital city of Nepal. My parents contact Binod Sapkota owner of Nepal Trek Adventure and Expedition and arrange 5 days Kathmandu City tour for me. I was surprised by the beauty of the city. I got to know why Kathmandu city is called as a ‘city of the temple’ because in almost every street you can find small temples. Krishna Sapkota was my guide for Kathmandu City tour. He was a professional guide with a good sense of humor. He had good knowledge about the culture and tradition of many places. I visit the high spot of Kathmandu cities like Basantapur, Swayambhu, Pashupati, Bouddha and Patan. The city was amazing as my parents use to tell me. Huge thanks to Nepal Trek Adventure and Expedition for this amazing Kathmandu City Tour.
Binod and his crew were amazing. My fiance and I only had 3 days in Nepal and wanted to get the most out of the short time we were there. Binod custom-organized a three-day tour of the country, recommending great hotels within the budget that we wanted to spend. Everything was fantastic from the start-- Binod was fast at getting back with emails, he really listened to my interests, and they only organized things that we really wanted to do, unlike other tour companies where I feel like they recommend places that they have connections to. He had organized a great driver (driving there is a bit crazy!), a very informative tour guide that knew everything about the temples, and a very gracious trekking specialist. If you ever want to see Nepal to the fullest, especially in a short time, this is definitely the way to go!
